December Event – Windows Intune

Join us on December 13th at 7pm for a presentation on Windows Intune. The presentation is part of the Springboard Series Technical Expert Panel Program (STEP) and will be delivered by the dynamic Mitch Garvis (Microsoft MVP – Windows Desktop Experience). Windows Intune helps businesses manage and secure PCs using Windows cloud services and Windows 7. Windows Intune includes both the cloud service for PC management and security and upgrade rights to Windows 7 Enterprise and future versions of Windows.

TechDays 2011

Details have been released by Microsoft about the upcoming TechDays 2011. Unfortunately for us in the Maritimes, there is no local in-person event. Only Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal are slated to have in-person events. I attended TechDays 2010, and got to see Mitch Garvis, Rick Claus, Todd Lamothe, Marco Shaw amongst others present topics covering everything from deployments with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010 to PowerShell.

Here is a copy of the details announced today: TechDays 2011.

There is some interesting details included in the announcement, such as enhancing content year round with a TechDays Online initiative, as well as a larger push to being involved in the user group community and other local organized events.

I would venture a guess that the current TechNet Virtual Labs offering will play a key role in this endeavour. These Virtual Labs are a great start for learning and getting exposure with a product; when they work. I’ve been trying to load some of the MDOP labs lately with no luck.

Even with the dissapointment of no local in-person event there are opportunities to organize the community to learn from peers on topics that you may be interested in.

A big thank you to Rick Claus for speaking at the Virtual Reality event last evening as well as a another big thank you to Marco Shaw (Powershell MVP) for pulling together the event by booking the venue as well as bringing along some food. We also cannot forget to thank the attendees for coming out to make the event a success.

Rick Claus (Senior Technical Evangelist – Microsoft Canada) is going on tour to present details about Microsoft’s virtualization stack. I have seen Rick speak previously at Tech Days, he provides very good information and is an engaging speaker. Rick has also just recently presented at Microsoft Tech Ed 2011 where he received high praise from those in attendance. There are several stops in the Maritimes

Understand the capabilities of the Microsoft Virtualization offering
Install and configure a iSCSI target and create a Clustered resource
Configure System Center Virtual Machine Manager to manage 2 virtualization

Create a highly available virtual machine and LiveMigrate it between hosts
Learn where to get all the software to create your own environment

Even if you work in a VMWare or Citrix shop for virtualization don’t pass up the opportunity to expand your knowlege on the offerings of competitors in this space.
